Description of Queen of the flats … the Permit, or Pampa Jack
I recently had a “bucket list” opportunity to visit the bay island of Guanaja, just off the Caribbean coast of Honduras to fly fish its gorgeous “flats”. It is a beautiful little island with miles and miles of “flats” protected by a barrier reef around the island. The Queen of these flats is definitely the Permit, or as the locals call her, “Pampa Jack”. The Permit is arguably the most difficult fish in these ocean flats to catch on fly. She is the pickiest and most spooky fish I have ever seen, and very elusive. which is why she is such a challenge to catch, and why so many get, “permit fever”.
